New Favorite Obsession

A couple days ago I stumbled upon a new guilty pleasure,  a site called “Pinterest.com”. I know, I know, it doesn’t have to do with coupons or recipes but I am in LOVE! I am obsessed! So what is this site all about, because it looks kind of confusing?!? Well imagine all those dreams, ideas or just pictures that you love organized by category and all in one place. You can share with other people, look at their boards and even “steal” their ideas and add it to your own virtual board. I already created 9 boards, “PIN”ed over 300 pictures and counting! My only recommendation is not to try this at work because you are not going to work. I don’t know how many hours I have spent wandering around in the last couple of days. ENJOY but remember I warned you ;).

P.S. You need to send a request for an invite but they send it to your email in a couple of minutes.

Basics for deals and couponing

1st. create an email account or dedicate an email account that you check regularly so you sign up all your deals, account and offers.

2nd. Subscribe to the Sunday newspaper is cheaper in the long run and you make sure not to miss any coupons. Make sure to get a good sale on your subscription, I had seen sale price for Newsday as cheap as $4 month for the Sunday paper (regular price for the Sunday paper $2.5 each Sunday). If you go to the store to buy the newspaper make sure to check inside and that the coupons are in it. On holiday weekends such as 4th of July and Memorial Day you don't find coupons so don’t have to worry about buying them.

3rd. Website I check (almost) daily

Movie date night coupon style!

Now a day going to the movies is a luxury, with ticket prices starting at $11 per adult and popcorn and soda the price of eating in a 3 stars restaurant. How can people afforded?!?! Well we found the way to do it at a great price. 1st thing; we got great deal through grupon. I was able to score 2 silver passes for AMC movies for $1 each! and "F" was able to get a sale for $4 each!

Coupons + Sale + money back= Great Deal!

So, the key to get more with your coupon is to make sure you buy an item when is on sale. I know probably a lot of you had heard of this but here is an example of how much (or really little) "damage" you can do when you make sure to shop around. Around 1 month ago Walgreens (the drugstore) had the men razor Schick Hydro 5 for $9.85 with $4 cash back. At that time I had 2 coupons for $5 of the razor. "F" and I went to the store and each purchase a razor. We made sure to do 2 separate transactions as some store don’t let you use more than one coupon and I didn’t want to encounter a problem when trying to get my cash back. 2 days later a new sale came out on Walgreens and I made a second purchase so I can use my cash back. Here is a look at my saving!

Look what I got in the mail!

As some of you know (and some others are going to learn pretty soon lol). I, "L", signup for free trial/coupon etc. Well this is the best thing I got for $0! For NADA. Two weeks ago a friend post on facebook that Mixbook had a one day promo for a free 20 page photo album with free shipping, sweet!. The moment I saw that I start creating my account with the company through my phone because I knew the deal was not going to last. By the time I got home the site was so slow and was impossible to download any pictures so I kind of gave up but still add them to my friends in Facebook. Later in the day they apologize because the site crash but they let us fill up a paper and whoever start the book before the site problem (like me!) would get a code that could be use for 48 hours! That Saturday I had to spend almost two hours because the site kept freezing but I did it! I upload our honeymoon pictures and now I have the most beautiful memory of our honeymoon for nothing!

Who we are

We’re a young couple, who fell in love, and as always love blurs reality. We decided to get married with all these dreams while the entire country’s economy was going in the opposite direction (Yes, that was in 2009). Now, we are faced with the reality of cooking, cleaning, and trying to save, but mostly, surviving in this horrible economy. During the last couple of years some great things and some other not so great things have happened, but this helped us learn from one another. Because of all of this our passions for different things have changed. “F”, the male/husband of this couple, went from loving to go out to eat at restaurants each week, to having a passion for cooking great dishes (90% of the time ;)). Myself, you can call me “L”, the female/wife/queen of the castle, lol. I changed my passion from shopping to clipping coupons and making sure I can get the best sale prices. Believe me, we both are as excited about our new “hobbies” as we are with our past, and that is the reason we created this blog. Our friends kept saying how they love listening to my latest big sales and coupons I find and about F’s latest dish. So this blog is dedicated to my friends, because it’s easier to type it up than explain this stuff through a text message.
